Concrete Dye Stains Concrete Sealer

DecoTone Concrete Dye

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

DECOTONE is a proprietary blend of coloring compounds and solvents that deeply penetrates concrete, overlays, self-levelers and cementitious products, bringing the color into it.

DECOTONE produces vibrant, translucent colors and may be used in conjunction with ChemTone Masonry Stain, HardBright Color Hardener and DecoTop Overlays, enhancing and creating unique hues unattainable through other methods. Variations and inconsistent color are expected, as the penetration and tinting strength will vary from surface to surface depending on porosity, age, smoothness, cleanliness and general condition of the floor. Always test the surface for absorption and color strength before the general application to ensure you are satisfied with the color.

DECOTONE COLORS: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Brown, Black, Purple and Orange. Other colors may be special ordered. You may also increase the color selection by mixing and matching colors yourself.

INSTALLATION AND SPECIFICATIONS:

EXISTING CONCRETE: All Curing agents, sealers, coatings, oils, grease, waxes or water repellants must be removed prior to application of DecoTone concrete dye. Concrete should be tested for acceptance of dye, surface must be penetrable by water to achieve desired effect. If water beads on the surface, further cleaning sanding or grinding may be necessary. Clean the floor with DecoClean concrete cleaner and a buffing machine with a black pad, make sure the floor is thoroughly rinsed and tested before applying dye

NEW CONCRETE: New concrete must be cured for at least fourteen days; NO LIQUID CURING AGENTS SHOULD BE USED IN SURFACES TO BE DYED. HardBright Color Hardener may be applied when finishing the concrete to achieve different effects and lighter, brighter colors. Clean and prepare new concrete the same way as existing concrete. Laitance and other minerals and impurities on the surface may impede the penetration of DecoTone.

COVERAGE: Coverage will depend on surface condition, application technique and dilution rate. The usual coverage at full strength will yield between 100 to 300 square feet per gallon. Apply sufficient coats to achieve the desired color. It is recommended that DecoTone be reduced with Ethanol or other alcohols before application. The color concentration is very high which may cause undesirable effects when used straight. Start with a reducing rate of 2 parts alcohol to one part DecoTone and work your way up or down until you are satisfied with the results. Too much reduction may result in less colorant on the concrete and decreased light fastness.

READ COMPLETE MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET BEFORE APPLYING.

APPLICATION: A representative area should always be coated prior to general application to test for color, adhesion, performance and workmanship. The applicator should be familiar and experienced with the use of DecoTone concrete dye.

The surface must be thoroughly prepared and dry before coating is applied. Mix well before use and reduce as recommended. Pour mix into a solvent resistant sprayer and apply at a rate of 200 to 300 square feet per gallon always keeping a wet edge. DecoTone dries very quickly so the application should be fast and controlled, dividing the work area into sections will help achieve an even coat. Subsequent coats may be applied within minutes and the “layering” method is suggested. Apply one reduced coat over the entire area then add 2, 3 or more layers until the desired color is achieved. When doing small detail work the dye may also be applied by airbrush.

When using over acid stain, the floor must be already cleaned and neutralized. The strength of the dye is very high so it may completely overtake the color of the acid stain, color hardener or overlay, if just a slight change is needed you should reduce the dye ten to one with alcohol, test the result and then work your way up or down the reduction rates until the effect is achieved.

SEALING: DECOTONE DYES may be sealed with any following sealers, please read the technical data sheet and follow each individual product instructions.

HARDBRIGHT CLEAR: Solvent borne acrylic sealer, 30 % solids. Recommended for exterior and interior application. Read safety precautions for interior application. It provides medium hardness, good gloss and chemical resistance. It should be protected with Final Coat floor finish on interior applications.

POLYBRIGHT MCU CLEAR SEALER is a 45% solids solvent borne, moisture cure aliphatic polyurethane sealer. PolyBright MCU offers an excellent combination of film hardness, superior abrasion and chemical resistance, high gloss and durability. Recommended for commercial and residential use where a hard, high gloss, non-yellowing clear finish is desired. Read safety precautions for interior application.

DECOPOXY SEALER: Water base, low odor, Ideal for interior commercial or residential projects. This high wear resistance, water base VOC compliant sealer provides a very hard, high gloss finish. Protect with FINAL COAT floor finish for a long lasting, high shine and easy to maintain surface. IMPORTANT: Epoxy sealers need very good mechanical adhesion, therefore do not apply over smooth floors or concrete that has been finished with a power troweled. The concrete must be porous and have the texture of 120 grit sandpaper.

POLYBRIGHT POLYURETHANE: Indoors and outdoors polyurethane sealer, non-yellowing, VOC compliant, excellent abrasion resistance, hard finish, low odor, water borne, ideal for interior commercial and residential projects. Floor should be primed with DecoPoxy water base Epoxy prior to PolyBright application to achieve desired depth of color. Topcoat with Final Coat floor finish for a long lasting, high shine, easy to maintain surface

MAINTENANCE: Floors treated with DECOTONE concrete dye and sealed with the proper sealer need only be washed with a warm soapy water solution. Interior surfaces should be protected with Final Coat floor finish to ensure a long lasting easy to maintain finish that complies with UL slip resistance standards. Final Coat is a premium floor finish that provides a protective shell over the coating. Read Decosup’s Final Coat technical data sheet before application. A minimum of 5 coats is recommended for commercial work.

LIMITATIONS: DECOTONE will not hide cracks, blemishes and or other construction errors. The color produced by DECOTONE will vary from surface to surface, and it is dependant on, concrete mix, water/cement ratio, weather, application method, experience of installer, number of coats applied and general condition of the concrete itself, such as porosity, smoothness and cleanliness. There are some concrete surfaces that will not accept DECOTONE, always test surface prior to application.

SIZES: DECOTONE is available in quarts, one gallon, five gallon and fifty-five gallon containers. You may also order a sample kit from your nearest distributor.

CAUTION: DECOTONE should be handled with care. For more information please see the DECOTONE MSDS.
